More Things to Do
The Daytona Beach area is best known for its 23
miles of wonderful wide beaches, NASCAR® racing
and many fine golf courses. But that's just for
starters. There are downtown historical areas to
be explored, golf and tennis games to be played,
exciting fishing and diving and hundreds of other
recreational activities to enjoy.
- Daytona's sparkling white beach is an impressive
500 feet wide at low tide. Cars are still permitted
on some sections but unlike the early speed records
set here, 10 m.p.h. is the limit today. Many of
the beaches are handicap accessible, and specially
adapted wheelchairs are available at selected areas.
- Golf is well represented. In fact, Daytona Beach
has over a dozen excellent courses and is home to
the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).
- To fully experience the area, you should explore
the water in as many ways as possible. Deep sea,
surf and pier fishing are year 'round favorites.
Along the many winding waterways you're likely to
see wild dolphins, jumping fish and graceful water
birds from a charming canopied cruise boat, guided
canoe or other vessel. Need more excitement? Grab
a jet ski, parasail, wind surfer or scuba gear.
It's all here.
- Daytona Beach history goes back to the 16th century
arrival of the French, Spanish, British and other
brave explorers. The Bulow Plantation House has
fascinating displays and an open-air museum featuring
rare Seminole Indian relics and artifacts.
- The Casements were formerly the winter home of
multi-millionaire John D. Rockefeller. Today, it's
the city of Ormond Beach's beautiful cultural center.
- Beach Street in Old Daytona Beach takes you back
to life as it was in the early 1870s with tours
and exhibits scheduled throughout the year.
- The famous Daytona Beach boardwalk is part of
an oceanfront amusement area that includes the "Salute
to Speed" exhibit. Other race-related attractions
include Daytona U.S.A., and the Richard Petty Driving
Experience, to name just a few.
- The Ocean Walk Shoppe's now open next-door offer
shopping, dining, and a 10-screen movie theatre.
